Acquisition of Citizenship

Applications for Malaysian citizenship can be submitted to the National Registration Department (JPN). Below are the categories of applications and basic requirements related to it (Appendix A).

Note:

• Detailed requirements and checklists can be referred directly to JPN via their counter services or website at www.jpn.gov.my.
• The period of residence is calculated from the date of holding the Permanent Resident Identity Card (MyPR).

Reacquisition of Citizenship

Individuals who have renounced or had their citizenship revoked are allowed to apply for the reacquisition of Malaysian citizenship, subject to certain conditions. Applications can be submitted to the National Registration Department (JPN). Further clarification on this matter can be referred directly to JPN for appropriate advice based on the individual’s case background.
